1. Who We Are
StepFile.com is part of, and operated by, Texas Metal Works. "We" and "us" mean the operator; "you" means the person using the service, whether signed in or not.
2. Your Account
You need an account to save models, share them, and download files other people have published. You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your password to yourself. Give us an email address that reaches you, since that is how we confirm the account and how anyone you share with is contacted.
One person, one account. Do not create accounts to get around a limit on the free tier.
3. Your Files Stay Yours
You keep every right you already had in the CAD files, drawings, notes, and documents you upload. We do not claim ownership of them. We store and transmit them for the sole purpose of running the service for you: showing them in the viewer, keeping them in your account, backing them up, and delivering them to the people you choose to share them with.
Do not upload anything you do not have the right to upload. If a file is under someone else's NDA, export control, or copyright, that is your call to make, not ours, and you make it when you upload.
4. Sharing A Model Is A Licence To The Person You Share It With
When you share a model and enable downloading, you are granting that recipient a licence to have a copy of that file. That is what the download permission means. If you do not intend to give somebody a copy, share the model with downloading switched off, which lets them view and measure it in the browser without receiving the file.
Sharing controls who we hand a file to. It cannot control what a recipient does with a copy afterwards. Treat a share link as you would treat emailing the file: send it to people you are willing to have hold it.
5. The Public Model Directory
If you publish a model to the public directory you choose a licence for it from the list we offer, and that choice is permanent. There is no edit path. To change the licence you remove the model from the directory and publish it again under the new one, and anyone who already downloaded it keeps the licence that was attached at the time.
When you download a model from the public directory you are bound by the licence its owner attached to it. That licence, not these terms, decides whether you may modify it, redistribute it, or use it commercially, and whether you must credit the author. This is why downloading from the directory requires an account: an account is where you agree to be bound.
Anyone may view a directory model without an account. Downloading one requires a signed-in account, free or paid.
6. Our Software And The Service Belong To Us
The service, including its software, its source code, the code your browser downloads to run the viewer, its interface, design, features, and workflows, its documentation, and the StepFile.com and Texas Metal Works names and logos, belongs to us and is protected by copyright, trade secret, trademark, and other laws. Nothing in these terms or in the service transfers any of it to you.
We give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable permission to use the service through a web browser for its intended purpose while you follow these terms. That permission covers running the code the site sends to your browser, on the site, and nothing more. Code, files, and data your browser receives in order to run the viewer are not yours to keep, copy, or reuse. We reserve every right we do not expressly grant.
This section is about our software. Your models and documents remain yours under section 3.
7. What You May Not Do
You may not, and may not help or allow anyone else to:
- Access the service with bots, scrapers, crawlers, or other automated means, or call its interfaces other than through the viewer, the account pages, and the AI connector we provide.
- Attempt to reach files, accounts, or admin functions that are not yours, or probe, scan, or test the service's security.
- Copy, reproduce, mirror, frame, republish, sell, or rent the service or any part of its code, interface, or documentation.
- Decompile, disassemble, deobfuscate, reverse engineer, or otherwise try to work out the source code, algorithms, data formats, or interfaces of the service, except to the extent applicable law gives you that right despite this restriction.
- Extract, save, or reuse the code the site delivers to your browser, or run it anywhere other than on the site.
- Get around a plan limit, payment requirement, feature gate, sharing permission, or security control, including by changing the code, settings, or data in your browser to unlock features your plan does not include.
- Remove, hide, or alter any copyright, proprietary, or license notice.
- Upload malware or anything unlawful, or use the service to infringe anyone's rights.
- Use the service, or anything you learned from using it, to design, build, train, or improve a product or service that competes with it, or to copy its features, interface, or look and feel.
These restrictions apply to everyone who uses the service, whether or not they have an account.
8. Enforcement
If you break section 6 or 7, we may suspend or close your account and block your access, with or without notice. A breach of those sections can cause harm that money cannot adequately repair, so in addition to any other remedy we may ask a court for an injunction or other order to stop it, without posting a bond where the law allows. If we have to enforce sections 6 or 7 against you, you will reimburse our reasonable costs of doing so, including attorney fees.
9. Feedback
If you send us ideas, suggestions, or feedback about the service, we may use them for any purpose without restriction and without paying you.
10. Free And Paid Plans
Free accounts have limits on storage, upload size, link lifetime, groups, group membership, and shared folders. Paid plans lift those limits for the term you pay for. The current numbers are shown in the product and may change; a change never retroactively takes away something already granted.
Paid plans are sold as a subscription and renew until cancelled. You can cancel any time and keep what you paid for until the end of the period you already paid for. Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy.
When a paid plan ends, because a payment failed and was not fixed, you cancelled and the paid period ran out, or free months ran out, your account moves to Free. If your account is over the Free storage limit, we may delete content from it after a period of time, so keep your own copies of anything you want to keep. We will tell you before we do, using the email address on your account and the Billing page. A deleted model, with its saved versions, attachments, and share links, cannot be brought back.
11. Availability, And No Warranty
We work to keep the service up and your files intact, and we keep a second copy of stored models in a separate provider. Even so, the service is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. A browser-based viewer is not a backup, an archive, or a system of record.
Measurements, volumes, weights, and other figures the viewer reports are derived from the geometry in the file you opened. Check them against your own source of truth before anyone cuts metal.
12. Limitation Of Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential loss, including lost profit, lost data, or the cost of work performed against a figure the viewer displayed. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
13. Ending Things
You can delete your account from your account page at any time, which closes your account and removes your models, attachments, shares, and folders after a period of time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Some records, such as billing history, survive account deletion where we are required to keep them.
14. Privacy
What we collect and why is set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
15. Governing Law And Where Disputes Are Decided
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or the service will be decided exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Montgomery County, Texas, and you and we consent to those courts' jurisdiction.
16. Changes To These Terms
We may revise these terms. Each revision carries a version. When the version changes we ask you to accept the new terms the next time you use your account, and we record which version you accepted and when. Continuing to use the service after accepting is what binds you to the revision.
17. Contact And Support
Questions about these terms and help with the service go to our support team, the Texas Metal Works Customer Care Team. Use our Contact Us page to reach us. We aim to reply promptly but do not promise a response time.
Version history
Every version of these terms stays published. Nothing is edited after the fact; a change means a new version.
