Your Account: Models and Folders
Your saved models are listed in the Your models card on your account page. File, Manage files inside the viewer opens the same list in its own window. Any signed-in account can use it.
Step by Step: Put Your Models in Order
- Open Your models on your account page, or File, Manage files in the viewer.
- Click + New folder and type a name, for example
Customer jobs. - Tick the boxes beside the models that belong together. Shift-click a second box to tick everything in between.
- In the bar that appears, pick the folder in the Move to list, then click Move.
- Double-click a model's row to open it.
The Three Views
Buttons at the top switch between Details, Details with thumbnails and Thumbnails. The list opens with the small pictures on, and the viewer remembers your choice on this browser. Each picture shows the model as you last saved it, from the camera you last saved it in. Pictures that are missing, or out of date after you saved a change, are drawn for you without a click. STEP models with no picture get one from the site itself, in the background, even when you never open the list. Any other kind, and pictures out of date after a change, are drawn in your browser one after another while the list is open (smallest models first), and the line beside the buttons says how far it has got. Keep the tab in front on a screen at least 700 pixels wide: a tab in the background waits. Make missing thumbnails starts the run on a narrow screen or after you stopped it. A picture the site draws is a plain shaded view; your browser redraws it the richer way the next time the model changes. Only you see thumbnails. They do not show on share links. Your connected AI can fetch the same picture with get_thumbnail.
Folders
Click + New folder. Folders can sit inside folders. Names must be unique within a folder, ignoring capitals. Folder rows show their sharing, such as "shared to 2 groups" or "shared through <folder>". To share a whole folder, see Sharing a Folder.
Selecting Several
Tick the boxes to act on several rows at once. Shift-click ticks a range. The box in the header ticks everything shown. A bar then shows how many are selected, with a Move to folder list and a Move button, then New subfolder, Rename, Delete and Clear. New subfolder and Rename show only when they fit what is ticked.
Step by Step: Rename
- Click a name, pause, then click it again. You can also select the row and press F2, or long press on a touch screen.
- Type the new name.
- Press Enter or click away to save. Press Esc to cancel.
- A file's extension (for example
.step) stays locked.
Right-Click Menus
- Model: Open, Open in new tab, Open version, Stats, Rename, Move to, Delete.
- Folder: Open folder, New subfolder, Share, Rename, Move to, Delete.
- Several selected: Move N to, and Delete N.
- Empty space: New folder.
Move to in a menu does not move anything by itself. It jumps to the Move to folder list in the bar. Pick the folder there, then click Move.
Columns and Rows
Columns are Name, Size, Modified and Sharing. The sharing switch turns a link on or off. When it is on you get a copy-link button and the view count. A model row has Open, Stats and a ... button. Part number and description show under the name. Assemblies show their own icon and have no Stats button.
Step by Step: Share a Model with a Link
- Find the model's row.
- Turn its sharing switch on.
- Click the copy-link button and paste the link where you want it.
- Turn the switch off to stop the sharing. See Sharing a Model for passwords, expiry and what visitors may do.
Stats
The tiles above the list count Human views, AI reads, Human downloads and AI downloads. Stats on a model shows the same counts for that one model.
Deleting
Deleting moves items to the Recycle Bin. See Your Account: The Recycle Bin. A model with older versions first asks which to delete.
Tips and Common Problems
- I cannot rename the extension. It is locked on purpose.
- A folder name is refused. Another folder in the same place already has that name, ignoring capitals.
- There is no thumbnail. Click Make missing thumbnails in a picture view.
- My storage did not drop after deleting. Binned items still count until you empty the bin.
