Settings

Settings holds the choices for the mouse, a 3D mouse, exploded view animation and the keyboard. Each choice is kept in your browser for next time. The look of the model (colors, shading, edge lines) is a separate drop-down, Scene, on the View tab.

Step by Step

  1. Click File, then Settings.
  2. Click a tab down the left side: Mouse, 3D mouse, Animation or Shortcuts. The 3D mouse tab shows only in a browser that can talk to a 3D mouse.
  3. Click a button or move a slider. Each change applies at once. There is no Save button.
  4. Click Show advanced controls at the foot to see the extra choices. The same button then reads Hide advanced controls.
  5. Click Back (or the X, or press Esc) to close Settings.

Mouse Tab

  • Mouse: middle button and Mouse: right button: each can be Pan, Spin, Zoom or Rotate. Rotate is the roll, like turning a steering wheel. The middle button starts as Pan and the right button as Spin.
  • Under advanced controls, Controls: Reverse spin direction, Reverse zoom direction and Reverse twist direction. The spin and twist choices apply to the arrow keys too.

See Mouse, Touch, and 3D Mouse for what each mouse action does.

3D Mouse Tab

  • Connect asks the browser to pick the device. Disconnect lets go of it. A status line says what is happening, for example Connected with the device name, or Not connected. Press Connect and pick your 3D mouse.
  • Enable 3D mouse turns it on or off.
  • Speed (slow to fast) and Dead zone (none to wide) sliders.
  • Advanced controls: Zoom with (Slide fore/aft or Press/lift), Reverse a direction for each of the six cap motions, Rotate about the part, not the view, Keep the view level, One axis at a time (strict), Ignore spring-back on release, Ignore accidental off-axis input, Rotate speed, Pan speed, Zoom speed, Fit-view button (Assign then press a button on the puck, or Clear), and Show raw axis readout.

Animation Tab

Default time per explode step (seconds) is how long each step of an exploded view takes when the view plays as an animation. It starts at 3. Type a number from 0.1 to 30. A number outside that range turns the box red and is not kept. A view or a step can still set its own time. See Animation Settings.

Shortcuts Tab

One row for each key. Click a key, press the new one, and it is set. Reset to the standard keys puts them all back. The steps and the full list are on Keyboard Shortcuts.

Where the Other Choices Are

  • Colors, shading, edge lines (Panel seams, By angle or None), outline and perspective: Scene and Perspective on the View tab.
  • Units, decimal places and text size: the Display group on the Measure tab. See Units, Decimals, and Text Size.
  • Light or dark screen: Theme on the View tab. See Theme.

Tips

  • Right-click any Settings button and choose Help on it to come back to this page.
  • Settings are saved in this browser only. A different browser or computer starts from the standard choices.
  • If the 3D mouse tab is missing, your browser has no WebHID. Use Chrome or Edge.

If Something Goes Wrong

  • The Animation box is red. The number is outside 0.1 to 30. Type a different one.
  • The 3D mouse does not move the view. Check that Enable 3D mouse is on and the status says Connected.
  • Scrolling zooms the wrong way. Turn on Reverse zoom direction under advanced controls.
