Note (Pin a Note on the Model)
Note drops a text note on an exact spot of the model. The note shows as a bubble joined to the spot by a dashed line. It does not change the model.
Step by Step
- Open a model, click the Notes tab of the ribbon, then Note. The button lights up and a message says "Note mode on: tap the model to add notes".
- Click a spot on the model. A bubble opens there with the title Note 1 by and your name.
- Type your text. It saves by itself a moment after you stop typing, once the model is saved to your account.
- Click more spots to add more notes. Note mode stays on until you click Note again ("Note mode off").
The Bubble
- Move the text: drag the bubble by its title line. The pin stays on its spot and the dashed line follows.
- Resize: drag the corner of the text box. The size is remembered.
- Color: the row of seven small circles changes the color scheme of that note.
- Hide: folds the note to a small numbered pin. Click the pin to open it again.
- Delete: removes the note.
- Hover over the title to see when it was written.
Notes From Other People
On a shared model, notes written by others show their author's name. You can read them and move the bubble, but not change the text. You can delete one only if you are allowed to (the owner can remove anyone's note from their own model). The Note button only shows on a share when the owner allowed Comments and you are signed in.
Things to Know
- Turning Note on closes the measuring tools, and turning on a measuring tool turns Note off, so one click never does both.
- Hide Pins on the Documents tab folds every note to its pin at once. See Marks.
- While you are sketching or modeling, Note and Discussion are greyed out. Click the Notes tab to end modeling first (the same as Exit), then they work.
- The Pins tab of the Notes panel lists every note on the model, each with a Show button.
Tips and Common Problems
- Clicking does nothing. Open a model first. Without one the viewer asks you to open a model before adding notes.
- My note did not save. The model has to be saved to your account first. Use File, Save as.
- I only want a private reminder. Use the private pad on the Notes panel. See Notes and Sharing.
