Plans and Billing

There are five plans: Free, Advanced, Pro, Pro Plus and Pro Max. Prices and limits are set by the site and can change. The Pricing page and your Billing tab always show the current numbers.

What Never Costs Anything

  • Viewing a model of any size is free on every plan, signed in or not. The number of parts does not matter either.
  • Viewing a shared model is free. The people you share with never pay to look at what you send them. What a visitor can do on your link (download, measure, export) is set by you in the Share window and by your plan, not by theirs. See Sharing a Model.
  • Showing and hiding a part is free.

What Each Plan Adds

PlanIn general
FreeView, share and store a small number of models, with a smaller upload size
AdvancedIsolating parts, exporting parts and faces, password protected models, several files open in tabs, more storage and links, stronger sharing controls
ProEverything in Advanced, plus editing and modeling, assemblies, and embedding on websites
Pro Plus and Pro MaxThe Pro features with higher limits. Embeds on your website carry no STEPFILE.com mark

In more detail:

  • Isolating parts and exporting parts and faces (STEP, STL, DXF) need Advanced or higher. See Exporting Parts, Faces and Files.
  • Password protected models: a share link can ask for a password on Advanced and higher. See Sharing a Model.
  • Editing (sketching, features, a new part from nothing) is Pro. See Starting a Sketch.
  • Assemblies (several models placed together with mates) are Pro. See Assemblies: Start and Insert Parts.
  • Embeds (a model on your own website) are Pro. On Pro the embed shows a small STEPFILE.com mark that links back to the viewer. Pro Plus and Pro Max embeds have no mark. See Embedding a Model on Your Website.
  • Uploads can be up to 95 MB on every paid plan. Free has a smaller limit, shown when a file is too big.
  • Tabs: several files open at once on paid plans. See Tabs: Several Files at Once.

AI Is Bring Your Own

STEPFILE.com does not include an AI. You can connect the AI assistant you already use. See Connecting an AI Assistant. The only thing STEPFILE.com meters is modeling time: the time the modeling engine spends building parts. Pro and the higher plans include a monthly amount of modeling time, and the higher plans include more. Finding, viewing and organizing are never billed by time; measuring, picturing and building for your AI are.

AI connections at once: one on Free, Advanced, Pro and Pro Plus, and two on Pro Max.

Add-ons were retired in version 6.322.0. If you need more, move up a plan.

Step by Step: Change Your Plan

  1. Sign in and open your account page.
  2. Click the Billing tab. It shows your plan and price, your status, the next charge, your card and what you are using now.
  3. Click Plan. A list of the plans on sale opens. The button shows only when there is more than one plan to choose from.
  4. Pick a plan in the list. Your current plan is marked (now). The exact amount is worked out under the list.
  5. Click the button that appears. Moving up shows Upgrade and pay and is charged now for the part of the month left. Moving down shows Change at the end of this month, so you keep the higher plan until then. See Billing: Change Your Plan.

Step by Step: Subscribe for the First Time

  1. Open the Billing tab. A new subscriber sees Choose a plan (or Go Pro when only Pro is on sale).
  2. Pick Advanced, Pro, or a higher Pro plan.
  3. Click Continue to payment.
  4. Enter your card on the payment form. Card details go straight to Stripe.

Step by Step: Update Your Card

  1. Open the Billing tab.
  2. Click Update card and enter the new card.
  3. Optionally click Add backup card. The backup card is used only if your main card is declined.

Step by Step: Cancel

  1. Open the Billing tab and click Cancel subscription. A box explains what happens.
  2. Click Yes, cancel at the end of this month. Future charges stop, and your plan stays on until the end of the month you paid for.
  3. Changed your mind? Until then, click Keep my plan to undo the cancellation.
  4. After that date the account moves to Free. Stored content above the Free limits is removed after a grace period unless you come back. Download what you need first.

The full walk through is on Billing: Cancel or Keep Your Plan.

Tips and Common Problems

  • I cannot find Billing. It is on your account page, not inside the viewer.
  • A feature is grayed out and says a plan. The note names the plan it needs. Upgrade from the Billing tab.
  • A payment failed. Your account can fall back to Free limits until the card is fixed. Use Update card.
  • My visitors cannot export. Exports from a share need your plan, and the Exports (DXF, STEP, STL) box ticked in the Share window.
  • The upload is refused as too big. The message gives your plan's limit.
