File, Discard All Changes
Discard all changes ends your modeling session and throws away the edits you made, so the model goes back to the way it was when it was last saved.
When to Use It
- You went down the wrong road and want to start over from the saved model
- You opened a model only to look, tried an edit, and do not want to keep it
Step by Step
- While modeling is open, click File, then Discard all changes. It is also on the Save group of the modeling toolbar.
- If you have unsaved edits, the viewer asks Discard all modeling changes? Click OK to throw them away, or Cancel to keep working.
- Modeling closes and the model shows its last saved feature tree.
Tips and What to Expect
- Edits to a saved model save themselves about every 2.5 seconds. Discard goes back to the last saved point, so work already saved is kept. It is not a way to undo the last few minutes.
- To take back one step, use Undo and Redo instead. It leaves everything else in place.
- Discard on a part that was never saved takes you back to an empty window.
- Versions you already made with File, Create New Version are not touched.
- Discard does not delete the model from your account. It only ends the changes made in this modeling session.
- Right-click the menu item and choose Help on to open this page.
- The same choice is on the Save group of the modeling toolbar, beside Create new version and Download STEP.
Common Problems
- I discarded and lost work. Anything that had not saved was thrown away. Open File, Versions to see whether a version holds what you need. See File, Versions.
- There was no question. With no unsaved edits the viewer does not ask.
- I only wanted to undo a step. Use Undo and Redo.
