Discussion
Discussion is one shared thread for a model. The owner and everyone who opens a live share of it read and write the same thread. It does not change the model.
Step by Step
- Click the Notes tab of the ribbon, then Discussion. The Notes panel opens on the right with the Discussion thread. Click Discussion again to close it.
- Read the entries. You need to be signed in, and the model must be saved to your account (or opened from a share link). Each shows the author and how long ago it was written, like "John P. - 5m ago".
- Click the line at the bottom (it reads "Write to everyone on this model"), type, then press Enter or click Send.
- The thread refreshes by itself about every 30 seconds while the panel is open, and right after you send.
Who Can Do What
- Read: anyone with the model or a link to it. A new thread reads "Nothing here yet."
- Write: the owner, and visitors whose share allows Comments. Without it, the panel says "Commenting is turned off on this link." A signed-out visitor sees "Sign in to join the discussion."
- Remove an entry: click the small x on an entry. You can remove your own entries; the owner can remove any.
- The model must be saved to your account for the thread to exist. For an unsaved model there is no Discussion.
Good to Know
- A copy of a model shares the thread of the model it came from. The panel says "This discussion is shared with the model this copy came from."
- The count of entries shows at the top right of the thread.
- The thread belongs to the model as a whole. To point at a spot on the part, use Note.
Tips and Common Problems
- I do not see new replies yet. The thread checks about every 30 seconds. Close and open the panel to refresh at once.
- There is no Send box. Commenting is off for you on this link, see Who Can Do What.
- Private notes. The Notes tab of the same panel is a private text pad. It opens for any signed-in account and is kept with the saved model (see Private Notes). The Discussion tab next to it is the shared thread. See Notes and Sharing.
