File, Download Edited STEP
Download edited STEP gives you a STEP file of the part as you have modeled it, saved on your own computer.
When to Use It
- Send the part you made to a shop, a customer or another program
- Keep a copy on your own drive
- Get a file out of a model that is not saved to your account
Step by Step
- Make at least one modeling edit. With no edits, File, Export, STEP gives the original STEP file instead. It is also on the Save group of the modeling toolbar as Download STEP.
- Click File, point to Export (or click it), then click STEP. While you have edits it writes the edited model.
- The browser downloads a file ending in .step. A message reads Edited model downloaded as STEP.
- Keep working. Your modeling session stays open, and you can still save a version afterward.
Tips and What to Expect
- The file keeps your model's name, with the old extension replaced by .step. Repeated saves do not stack extra "edited" words on the name.
- The STEP is written in the unit your model uses. See Units and Display.
- The button is greyed until you have made an edit. For a file you have not changed, use File, Download File.
- Downloading does not save anything to your account. Use File, Save or File, Create New Version for that.
Common Problems
- The item is greyed out. You have not made a modeling edit yet.
- Nothing downloaded. The browser may have blocked the download. Allow downloads for this site and try again.
- I want one face or one part, not the whole model. See Exporting Parts, Faces and Files.
