The Save Status Word (Saved, Saving, Not saved)
A small word in the top strip, just to the right of Undo and Redo, tells you whether your modeling edits are saved. It is there so you never have to wonder.
Where It Shows
It appears once modeling has started, or whenever something is waiting to be saved. Before that, the spot is empty. Point at the word to see a longer sentence in a tooltip.
What Each Word Means
| Word | Tooltip | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Saved | All changes saved. | Everything you did is stored in your account. |
| Saving soon | Saving shortly... | You made a change. It saves by itself in a moment (about 2.5 seconds). |
| Saving... | Saving... | The save is on its way right now. |
| Not saved | Count of changes, such as "3 changes not saved yet." | Autosave is off for this file, so the changes are waiting for you. |
| Not saved | Not saved yet. File, Save names it once; after that every change saves itself. | The model has never been saved to your account. |
| Not saved (10 min) | Same as the row above | Changes have been waiting for 10 minutes or more. The word turns amber. The number counts the minutes. |
Not saved shows in amber so it stands out. The other words are plain gray.
Step by Step: Get From "Not saved" to "Saved"
- Sign in. Autosave needs an account.
- Click File, then Save. If the model has never been saved, the Save to my account window opens. Type a Project name, pick a Folder and click Save.
- From then on, every change saves by itself. The word goes Saving soon, Saving..., then Saved.
When Autosave Is Off
Autosave runs only when all of these are true:
- You are signed in.
- The model is saved to your account.
- You are looking at the current version, not an older one.
- Modeling is available on your plan (Pro).
- You are not editing one part inside an assembly. Those edits are saved as a new version when you leave Edit Part.
When one is not true, the word reads Not saved, and File, Save saves what is waiting.
Tips
- If you close the browser tab with unsaved modeling edits, the browser asks before it lets you leave.
- A failed automatic save shows a message ending "(automatic save; it will try again)". The word stays on Not saved or Saving soon until it works.
- Autosave never reloads or redraws the model. The screen looks the same saved or not.
If Something Goes Wrong
- The word stays on "Not saved". Check that you are signed in and that you are not looking at an older version. Pick the one marked (current) in File, Versions.
- "Save failed". Your connection dropped or the server could not store the file. Click File, Save again in a moment.
- No word at all. You have not started modeling and nothing is waiting to save.
