Autosave

While you model, your edits autosave into the current version about every 2.5 seconds whenever something has changed. There is no Save button to remember. Notes autosave a moment after you stop typing, as long as the model is saved to your account.

The File Menu

Open it from the top-left of the strip. It holds only file actions and settings, in groups: New (a list: Part (Pro), Assembly, Assembly from This Model and Drawing of This Part...), Open, Recent (signed in, a list of your last models), Manage files (signed in), Close and Close tab; then Save, Save as, Save all and Versions (a list: Upload a new version and your saved versions). Point to an item with an arrow, or click or tap it, to open its list. The assembly tools are on the Assembly tab.

  • New, Part (Pro): starts a part from nothing. With a model already open and tabs available, it opens in a new tab and leaves the part you were working on exactly as it was, with no question about unsaved changes. See Tabs: Several Files at Once.
  • Save: saves your edits into the current version. Autosave already does this, but you can use it to be sure.
  • Save as: saves a copy under a new name.
  • Close: closes the file and returns to the start screen.
  • Versions, Upload a new version: adds a new version from a file on your computer. See Your Account: Versions and Attachments.
  • Versions: pick any saved version to view it. An older version is read-only.

Three more choices appear only while modeling is open: Create new version (keep the old one) and Discard all changes in the menu. Discard throws away everything since the last saved point.

Further down you will find Export (a list: STL..., IGES..., Faces as DXF..., and Assembly as STEP with an assembly open), Download <EXT> file, Share (a list: Share this model and Embed on a website..., signed in, Pro), Attachments, Properties... and Settings. Full Screen is on the View tab, and Clear All on the Measure tab clears your marks.

Step by Step: Open, Work, and Save a Model

  1. Click File, then Open. Pick a model from your account, or from your computer. See Opening a File.
  2. Work on it. Measurements and notes belong to the model.
  3. Once the model is saved to your account, your edits and notes save by themselves. Click File, Save if you want to be sure.
  4. To keep a copy under another name, click File, Save as and type the name.
  5. Click File, Close when you are done. The viewer returns to the start screen. If you have unsaved modeling changes it asks first.

Step by Step: Go Back to an Older Version

  1. Click File, Versions, or open the Files panel on the right rail.
  2. Pick the version you want. It opens read-only.
  3. Pick the newest version in the list to go back to the current one. See Your Account: Versions and Attachments.

Step by Step: Throw Away a Bad Edit

  1. While modeling is open, click File, Discard all changes.
  2. The viewer asks Discard all modeling changes? Confirm, and the model returns to the last saved point.
  3. For a single step, use Undo and Redo instead.

Manage Files

Manage files opens your account's model list in its own window. It has every saved model, your folders and the sharing switches. See Your Account: Models and Folders. Opening a model from there loads it into the viewer, the same as File, Open.

Files Panel

Click Files on the right rail to see this model's attachments and saved versions in one panel. Picking a version here works the same as the Versions list. Badges on the Files button count attachments and archived versions. To add several documents at once, use Open... or drag them onto the drop area at the bottom; see Your Account: Versions and Attachments.

Tips and Common Problems

  • Nothing saves. A model that has not been saved to your account has nothing to autosave into. Use Save as first. Shared pages you only view cannot be changed.
  • I can still see old edits after Discard. Discard goes back to the last saved point, which may include edits that autosave already kept.
  • Several files at once. Paid plans can use Tabs.
