File, Save

File, Save saves your work into the model you have open, in your account.

What It Does

It stores the model, your measurements, notes, section planes and any modeling edits under the same name, replacing what was saved before. The older versions of the model are not touched. While you model, the viewer also saves by itself about every 2.5 seconds after a change, so Save is there when you want to be sure.

Step by Step

  1. Sign in. Saving needs an account.
  2. Click File, then Save.
  3. If this model has never been saved, the Save to my account window opens. Type a Project name, pick a Folder (or type a new folder name and click Create), and click Save. See File, Save as for the rest of that window.
  4. If it was saved before, a message says Saving... and then the work is stored under the same name.

Tips and Common Problems

  • It asks me to sign in. Save works only with an account.
  • An older version is on screen. An older version is read-only and autosave is off for it. Pick the one marked (current) in File, Versions before you save. Save as says "You are viewing an archived version" until you do.
  • It says the changes are saved when you exit Edit Part. While you edit one part of an assembly in place, the edits are saved as a new version when you leave Edit Part.
  • I want a second copy under another name. Use File, Save as.
  • I want to keep the old geometry as a version. Use File, Upload a new version.

File, Save as

File, Save as saves a new, separately named copy of the model in your account. The original stays as it was.

Step by Step

  1. Sign in, then click File, then Save as.
  2. Type a Project name you will recognise later. It starts as the file name.
  3. Pick a Folder, or type a new folder name in the box and click Create.
  4. If your plan includes private notes, the Private notes box lets you write notes only you can see.
  5. When you are copying a model that is already saved, a Bring along from the original row appears:
    • Measurements: ticked to start with.
    • Notes pinned on the model: unticked to start with, so a new project starts without the old notes.
    • Attached documents: ticked to start with. The original keeps its own files.
  6. Click Save. Click Cancel to leave without saving.

If you left something unticked, the new copy opens so the screen shows what it really holds, and a message tells you how many documents came along and how many were left behind because of the attachment limit or storage.

Tips and Common Problems

  • The window is called Save to my account, not Save as a new project. It only says "Save as a new project" when you are copying a model that is already saved.
  • It asks me to sign in. Saved models live in your account.
  • A model shared with you. The same window saves your own copy of it, without uploading it again. Re-share rights still follow what the sender allowed.
  • Assemblies. An assembly saves as an assembly. See Assemblies: Saving, Updates and Sharing.

File, Save All

File, Save all saves every open tab that has unsaved changes, one after another, without you visiting each tab.

When to Use It

  • You have several files open in tabs and want to be sure none of them loses work
  • You are about to close the browser or leave for the day

Step by Step

  1. Open two or more files in tabs. See Tabs: Several Files at Once.
  2. Click File, then Save all. It sits under Save as.
  3. The viewer goes through each tab that has unsaved changes and saves it. A model that was never saved opens the Save to my account window so you can name it and pick a folder. See File, Save as.
  4. When it is done you are back on the tab you started on, and a message tells you the result.

What the Messages Mean

  • Saved 3 files. Every tab with changes was saved.
  • Saved 2 of 3 files. One tab was not saved, for example because you cancelled its Save window. That tab stays open and keeps its changes.
  • Every open file is already saved. There was nothing to do.

Tips and What to Expect

  • Save all shows only when two or more tabs are open, and only on the paid plans that have tabs. With one file open, use File, Save.
  • Edits to a saved model already save by themselves about every 2.5 seconds, so Save all matters most for models you have not saved to your account yet.
  • Tabs with no changes are left alone. Each tab is saved on its own, so one failure does not stop the others.

Common Problems

  • I do not see Save all. You need two or more tabs open. Open another file in a new tab and it appears.
  • It asks me to sign in. Saving needs an account.
  • One file did not save. Switch to its tab and use File, Save. The message on the tab says why.
