Exit Sketch
Exit Sketch finishes the sketch you are in without making a feature. The sketch is kept in the Model tree as a sketch not used yet, ready for Sweep, Loft, or any feature that takes a sketch.
When to Use It
- You drew a path or a profile for Sweep or Loft and want to move on
- You want to leave a sketch and come back later
- You want to start a different sketch on another plane
Step by Step
- With a sketch open, click Exit Sketch on the Sketch tab.
- The sketch closes and a message says it waits in the Model tree. If the sketch had nothing in it, the message just says it is closed.
- To use it, click Advanced on the Features tab, open Sweep or Loft and pick it, or open the Model tree and edit it (see Sweep, Loft and Model Tree).
- To start another sketch, click Sketch and pick a plane or face (see Planes and Faces).
What You Will See
- The drawing tools go away, and the sketch pieces leave the view.
- If a Sweep or Loft panel is open, it refreshes so the new sketch shows in its choices.
- Switching between the Sketch, Features and Fabrication tabs does not exit the sketch. Only this button does.
Tips and Common Problems
- A message says to finish the step edit first: you are editing an earlier step from the Model tree. Choose Update step or Cancel at the top of the tree, then exit.
- The button is grey: no sketch is open, or you are editing an earlier step from the Model tree.
- Extrude and Cut stay in the sketch after they make a feature, so you do not need Exit Sketch for them (see Extrude and Cut).
