Sample Model Pages
Some pages on STEPFILE.com show a small sample part you can turn, zoom and measure, with no account and no upload. It is a read-only copy of the viewer. Use it to try the controls, or to see how a file type looks, before you open a file of your own.
Step by Step
- Find the dark box that reads the file type and SAMPLE (for example STEP SAMPLE). It has a button, Click to load in 3D.
- Click the button. The viewer loads inside the box. Nothing is fetched until you click, so the page stays quick.
- Drag with the left mouse button to turn the part. Scroll to zoom. See Mouse, Touch, and 3D Mouse.
- Use the View tab to fit the part, pick a view, switch perspective, change the grid or the scene.
- Use the Measure tab to pick a measuring tool and click the part. See Measuring.
- To work on your own file, click Open in STEPFILE.com under the box.
What You Can Use
The sample keeps only what turns, zooms and measures.

What Is Hidden
These are left out on purpose, because the sample is not tied to an account:
- The File menu, Undo, Redo and the save state
- The editing tabs and the Notes tab
- The marks eye, Share and Theme
- The right rail and its panels (Model, Properties, Files, Notes, Help)
- The upload card and the drop target
- Redraw, Slice, Hide All, Decimals and Text size
Small Frames
The ribbon shrinks to fit the frame, so it never needs a scroll bar. Below 820 pixels wide the button words go and only the icons stay (every button still shows its name when you hover). Below 540 pixels, Volume, Mass and Props go. Below 480 pixels, the Units and Format lists go. Below 360 pixels, Clear All goes.
Tips
- The sample always opens in inches with fractions, whatever you chose on your own account. The Units and Format lists still change it while you look.
- Nothing you change is saved. Reload the page and the sample starts fresh.
- The sample opens only its own part. Dropping a file onto it does nothing.
- Pick Full Screen for a bigger look at the part.
If Something Goes Wrong
- The box shows only the button. Click Click to load in 3D. The viewer loads on the first click.
- A tool you know is missing. The sample hides tools that need an account. Open the full viewer with Open in STEPFILE.com.
