STEPFILE.comFree, alpha release

Connect Your AI to StepFile.com

Connect the AI assistant you already use to your StepFile.com account. It can find your models, check their size, make quotes and cut lists and build parts for you, on the same account and plan you use in the viewer. You choose what it may do on the Allow page, and you can disconnect it at any time.

What you get: your assistant listed under Account, Connected Apps, ready to use in its own chat.

Your Connection Address

Every assistant asks for the same address:

https://stepfile.com/wp-json/tmw3dv/v1/mcp

It is also on Account, Connected Apps, under AI assistants, with a Copy button. Sign in to StepFile.com in the same browser first, because the Allow page needs your account.

Good to Know

  • Your plan sets how many assistants can be connected at once. See Connecting an AI Assistant.
  • On the Allow page you tick what the assistant may do. Leave anything unticked that you do not want it to touch.
  • To disconnect, open Account, Connected Apps and click Disconnect. The assistant stops working at once.
  • The steps below follow each assistant's own instructions. If one no longer matches what you see, use Report a Bug at the bottom of any page and tell us.
  • The assistants change their menus often. If a button is named a little differently, look for "connector", "custom app" or "MCP server".

Step by Step: Claude

  1. Open Customize, Connectors in claude.ai or the Claude desktop app.
  2. Click Add custom connector.
  3. Paste the connection address and click Add.
  4. Click Connect, sign in to StepFile.com if asked, and click Allow.
  5. In a chat, click +, then Connectors, and make sure StepFile.com is switched on.

On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an organization Owner adds the connector under Organization settings, Connectors, and each member then clicks Connect.

Step by Step: ChatGPT

Custom connectors in ChatGPT are a developer feature on the ChatGPT website only, not the phone app. Full access, including changes, is on Business, Enterprise and Edu plans. Pro can connect read-only.

  1. Open Settings, Apps, Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode. On Business, a workspace admin may need to allow it first.
  2. Go to Settings, Apps and click Create.
  3. Enter a name, paste the connection address and choose OAuth for authentication.
  4. Click Scan Tools, sign in to StepFile.com and click Allow, then click Create.
  5. In a new chat, pick the app from the tools menu or mention it by name. ChatGPT asks you to confirm each action.

Step by Step: Gemini

Custom apps in Gemini are for people 18 or older in the US, signed in with a personal Google account (not work or school), with Keep Activity turned on, in English. Add the app on the Gemini website. It then works on the website and in the phone app.

  1. Go to gemini.google.com and open Settings, Connected Apps. If you do not see it, open Personal Intelligence first.
  2. Under Custom apps, choose Add a custom app and paste the connection address.
  3. If Gemini shows Client ID and Client secret boxes (under Show more, Advanced features), first try leaving them empty. If Gemini asks for them, make a pair here: open Account, Connected Apps, AI assistants, Client ID and secret for AI apps that ask for one, name it Gemini, paste the redirect address Gemini shows you, and copy the ID and the secret into Gemini. The secret is shown once. See Your Account: Connected Apps.
  4. Click Next, sign in to StepFile.com if asked, and click Allow.
  5. In a prompt, type @ and choose StepFile.com.

Step by Step: Grok

  1. Go to grok.com/connectors.
  2. Click New Connector, then Custom.
  3. Paste the connection address and finish the sign-in: sign in to StepFile.com and click Allow.

On Grok Business and Enterprise, a team admin has to provision connectors first.

If Grok shows Connection failed before the sign-in page opens, the problem is on our side and we are working on it. Please try again later.

Step by Step: Microsoft Copilot

The Copilot chat apps do not let you paste in your own connector address. The way in is a Copilot Studio agent, which needs a Copilot Studio license (a Microsoft 365 Copilot license includes it). It suits a shop or team that already uses Microsoft 365.

  1. In Copilot Studio, open your agent, go to Tools and choose Add a tool, New tool, Model Context Protocol.
  2. Enter a name, a short description such as "StepFile.com models, quotes and cut lists", and the connection address.
  3. For authentication choose OAuth 2.0, Dynamic discovery and leave the client ID and secret empty.
  4. Click Create, then Create a new connection, sign in to StepFile.com, click Allow and then Add to agent.

Step by Step: Cursor

Cursor connects to remote MCP servers by address, and uses the same Allow page.

  1. Open Cursor Settings, Tools & MCP and choose Add Custom MCP. Cursor opens its mcp.json file.
  2. Add StepFile.com with the connection address:

{ "mcpServers": { "stepfile": { "url": "https://stepfile.com/wp-json/tmw3dv/v1/mcp" } } }

  1. Save the file. StepFile.com appears in the MCP list as needing sign-in. Click Connect, sign in to StepFile.com and click Allow.
  2. In Agent chat, StepFile.com's tools are now listed and ready. Cursor asks before it runs a tool unless you allow it.

Step by Step: Visual Studio Code

Use a current VS Code with GitHub Copilot chat. This adds StepFile.com as an MCP server.

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+P (Command Palette) and run MCP: Add Server.
  2. Choose HTTP (HTTP or Server-Sent Events), paste the connection address, and give the server a name such as stepfile.
  3. Choose where to save it (your user settings keep it for every project).
  4. When VS Code asks to authenticate, sign in to StepFile.com in the browser and click Allow.
  5. Open Copilot chat in Agent mode, click the tools icon and make sure StepFile.com's tools are ticked.

Step by Step: Mistral Le Chat

Only an Admin can add a custom connector. The owner of a Le Chat Free, Pro or Student account is an Admin.

  1. Open the side panel, expand Intelligence and click Connectors.
  2. Click + Add Connector, then open the Custom MCP Connector tab.
  3. Enter a connector name with no spaces or special characters, for example StepFile, and paste the connection address.
  4. Le Chat finds the sign-in method by itself (OAuth). Click Connect, sign in to StepFile.com and click Allow.
  5. In Connectors, My Connectors, open the StepFile card and its Functions tab to choose which actions Le Chat may run without asking.

If It Will Not Connect

  • Sign in first. Sign in to StepFile.com in the same browser, then try again from the assistant.
  • Start over. Remove the half-finished connection in the assistant and add it again.
  • A second assistant signed out the first. Your plan allows a set number of connections. Connect the first one again, or disconnect one you no longer use.
  • The Allow page names a problem. It says which part of the request it could not accept, for example an address that does not match. Go back to the assistant, remove the connection and add it again.
  • Still stuck? Use Report a Bug at the bottom of any page and tell us which assistant you used.
